Wonderful trip to a local coal mine. Hosts were very friendly, and lunch was delicious!
What I learned today:
- Importance of reclamation is to the mining process
- Size of the vein of lignite is in MS
- Importance of work ethics in the workforce
- Concept of electricity production through coal mining
- Size of property
- Length of time to process the coal
- All coal mine owners/companies have to pay into a mine reclamation fund
- Under EPA regulation/ Mine Safety
We completed a great activity about permeability and porosity. Can't wait to set up field trip for my students this upcoming school year.
